Kawasaki Z1000SX, Z1000SX Tourer & Z1000SX Performance
The Power To Move You – Moved On. It is always a daunting task to upgrade what is continually your best selling motorcycle. So what better way to improved this slick 1000cc 4 cylinder motorcycle than to ask for the opinion of the riders of the outgoing Kawasaki Z1000SX. The top points raised were:
More rider protection – A larger bubble screen that is still 3 way adjustable at the press of a lever.
Improved comfort – Both rider and pillion seat have been improved dramatically and Kawasaki Z1000SX has had it’s suspension re-tuned.
A factory fitted gear indicator – Now installed within the clocks.
Better lights – The Z1000SX headlights are now LED offering vastly improved night vision and improving the awareness of the other road users.
Luggage ready from the box – It is no longer necessary to book your bike in for the luggage mounting system to be fitted when adding panniers. The standard bike now comes from the factory luggage ready.
Kawasaki did not stop there, the new Z1000SX has with the use of an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) improved traction control, ABS and engine mapping taking the forces produced on cornering, slowing and accelerating into account. The result is that transitions from braking to accelerating (and vice-versa) are much smoother ensuring that the bike maintains the best levels of traction throughout.
The braking system on this new Z1000SX is taken from the mighty H2 and ZX10R. Utilising the latest in Bosch ABS technology it provides a multi level control of the ABS delivering just the right amount of braking at just the right time – every time.
The sharp restyling of the nose cone and subtle changes to the livery have connected the Z1000SX more closely to the Ninja Supersport range. An already great bike has been made even better.
Kawasaki Z1000SX Tourer version comes as standard with colour coded panniers that have removable inner bags, a Kawasaki Sat-Nav bracket and a model specific tank pad whereas the Z1000SX Performance comes with a pair of performance enhancing Akrapovic exhausts and a colour coded seat cowl.

Exhilarating In-line Four Engine
Powerful 1,043 cm3 liquidcooled, 4-stroke In-line Four engine pulls strongly from all rpm and does not let up before the redline. Adding to rider exhilaration, the engine delivers superb response, a strong mid-range hit and an intoxicating intake howl. Revised engine settings offer even smoother power delivery, facilitating control and contributing to rider comfort and confidence.
The Cool Air system routes cool air to the airbox from ducts at the front of the side fairings, minimising performance loss due to heated intake air.
Wind Protection
A new, taller double-bubble windshield also contributes to the increased wind protection. As before, the windshield is adjustable by hand (without tools), with three available positions to suit rider preference
Pannier System
The mounting system for the accessory panniers allows the panniers to be attached and removed very simply, contributing to increased convenience. Seamlessly integrating the panniers with the rear of the bike, the clean-mount system positions the panniers close to the bike centreline, and, thanks to its clean clutter-free design, ensures the rear of the bike still looks good with the panniers removed.
Instrumentation
All-new sophisticated instrument design features a large analogue tachometer flanked by warning lamps on one side, and a gear position indicator and multi-function LCD screen on the other.
LED Headlights
Contributing to the Kawasaki Z1000SX’s sharper looks, dual LED headlamps (each featuring low and high beams, as well as a LED position lamp) offer significantly increased brightness, casting their light wider and farther forward.
Suspension
The Z1000SX’s suspension settings allow the bike to respond quickly to rider input while soaking up bumps and ruts. ø41 mm inverted front fork features stepless compression and rebound damping and spring preload adjustability.
The rear shock features rebound and preload adjustability, with a remote preload adjuster facilitating setting changes to suit tandem riding, luggage or rider preference.
Comfortable Ergonomics
The Kawasaki Z1000SX’s relaxed riding position was designed to accommodate everything from city riding to touring to sport riding. This blend of comfort and control allows the rider to enjoy a variety of riding situations. Both rider and passenger seats deliver increased comfort. The redesigned rider seat has a wider seat area, while the passenger seat is longer (+25 mm), with 3 mm thicker urethane padding and a design that swells at the front.
Kawasaki Cornering Management Function
Using the latest evolution of this advanced modelling software and feedback from a compact Bosch IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), KCMF monitors engine and chassis parameters throughout the corner – from entry, through the apex, to corner exit – modulating brake force and engine power to facilitate smooth transition from acceleration to braking and back again, and to assist riders in tracing their intended line through the corner.
Kawasaki Traction Control
Three modes cover a wide range of riding conditions, offering either enhanced sport riding performance or the peace of mind to negotiate slippery surfaces with confidence. The IMU-enhanced feedback allows even more precise management than on the previous model.
Kawasaki Intelligent Anti-Lock Brake System
Kawasaki’s supersportgrade high-precision brake management system is standard equipment on the 2017 Z1000SX. This is the same base system used on the Ninja H2 and Ninja ZX-10R, with programming and settings revised to suit the performance parameters of the Z1000SX.
