The Ducati Monster 1200 R was unveiled last week at the Frankfurt Motor Show but what exactly is in an R?

Whilst the new Ducati Monster 1200 R is unmistakably a Monster and makes that immediate impact with aggressively sport styling but compact lightweight frame, the 160hp is what's really impressing us.  It's the most powerful naked offering from Ducati so far.

Weighing in at 207kg wet, the Monster 1200 R comes with three riding modes (Sport, Touring and Urban), as well as ABS and Traction Control systems.  It also makes the most of its Testastretta 11° DS engine, with 58mm exhaust ports, some pretty huge oval throttle bodies, as well as a compression ratio of 13:1.

The Monster 1200 R is equipped with fully adjustable suspension and shock, both by Öhlins. The Brembo braking system sees two radially mounted Monobloc M50 callipers acting on two 330mm discs at the front; the same components as those on the 1299 Panigale sports bike.

By using top-quality materials the Monster 1200 R has seen some amazing results, with valve clearance now scheduled for every 30,000 km and changing the oil every 15,000 km or every 12 months.  Yes that means increased service intervals and cutting running costs.

Additional things to note include new tail and front section designs, and manoeuvrablity looks set to be enhanced too, by way of the forged aluminium Marchesini wheels.

The Monster 1200 R is available in Ducati red and new Thrilling black and both versions are have a sporty motif representing the "R", which appears on the front mudguard, the mini-frame, tank ad passenger seat upholstery.  We expect the Monster 1200 R to be with us early 2016 and whilst prices haven't been released as yet, you can still contact us if you want to put your order in early.
