The Isle of Man TT has to be one of the most hair raising motorcycle races in the world, here's a few interesting facts you may or may not know about the TT, test your knowledge to see how many you would score out of 10.

The Isle of Man TT starts today, Saturday 25 May until Friday 7 June 2013 and has to be one of the most hair raising motorcycle races in the world.

Here's a few interesting facts you may or may not know about the TT, test your knowledge to see how many you would score out of 10.

  1. TT stands for Tourist Trophy.

  2. The TT began in 1907 and was 15 miles long.

  3. One lap is 37 ¾ miles long.

  4. The Superbike class consists of 6 laps or 226 ½ miles.

  5. The first 100mph lap was in 1957 by Bob McIntyre.

  6. Top racers today average close to 130mph.

  7. John McGuinness is the lap record holder with an average speed of 131.578mph in 2009.

  8. The late great Joey Dunlop won the TT a record 26 times.

  9. Sadly, the TT has claimed 239 racers over its 106 years.

  10. Many riders visit ‘Fairy Bridge’ to say hello to the Fairies for good luck – well wouldn’t you?
