Global Horizons
The Kawasaki GTR1400 that comes standard with panniers has had some considerable changes made to it since it was introduced in 2010. It has for 2016 been tweaked a little further. Here are a few of the GTR's exceptional features:
- KI PASS Keyless ignition system
- Tyre Pressure Monitoring
- Variable Valve Timing System for the smoothest of engines
- Electric Screen Adjustment – can be varied on the move
2016 sees the Kawasaki GTR1400 updated with a vent added to the electronically adjustable windscreen which reduces load on the rider by letting external air enter the cockpit area. With the vent open, the negative-pressure effect in the cockpit is reduced. This means less chance of the rider being pulled forward at high speed together with a redesigned seat that offers increased comfort for both rider and passenger.
Another update for this year is revised settings with the linked braking system together with a shorter first gear this allows a more natural brake feeling for low-speed manoeuvres like U-turns.
Kawasakis traction control system is designed to improve rider reassurance by delivering smooth riding on any slippery surface. The system looks for a difference in front and rear wheel speed. When the rear wheel spins (i.e. when rear wheel speed is faster than front wheel speed). The engine power delivery is now controlled to allow the rear wheel to regain grip.
K-ACT (Kawasaki Advanced Coactive-braking Technology) ABS allows you to execute controlled and balanced braking. This system was designed to complement any riders’ applied brake force. K-ACT ABS ensures an ideal brake force distribution to maximise braking your efficiency.
Another great feature is to warn riders of any tyre pressure changes. Tyre pressure sensors are fitted as a standard part. The system allows you to monitor your tyre pressure while riding. When tyre pressure falls below 220 kPa, a low-pressure warning is displayed.

Heated Grips
Effortless adjustable heated grips are fitted as standard and the manly rotary switch is located close to you for easy access with gloves on your hands.
Luggage
The 37ltr large-volume panniers are designed to complement the GTR’s overall looks and styling package. The cases detach so simply and are water-resistant and easily hold a full-face helmet. They have been mounted as close as possible to the bike’s centreline and the bike’s centre of gravity, their lightweight construction was designed to minimise their influence on the bike’s centre of gravity.
Economic Riding Indicator
The ERI (Economical Riding Indicator) appears upon the LCD screen to indicate your fuel consumption as you ride. Paying attention to conditions that result in the icon appearing can assist you to maximise your fuel efficiency. You must ride in a gentle manner: less than 6,000 rpm, less than 30% throttle, under 160 km/h.
Fuel Economy Assistance Mode can be turned on and off by the rider. Turning on this mode automatically switches the ECU to a leaner fuel map that prioritises fuel economy over driveability. Once you turn this on, an icon will appear on the LCD screen. You must ride in a gentle manner: (to get maximum gain) less than 6,000 rpm, less than 30% throttle, under 160 km/h.
KIPASS
(Kawasaki’s Intelligent Proximity Activation Start System) is a master key system that allows you to walk up to the machine and it remotely activates the bike’s main switch and steering lock. For added security Kawasaki has incorporated an immobiliser into the ignition system.
Adjustable Screen
The standard electrically adjustable windscreen has now been made 70 mm taller and is also wider at the top. This increased height allows air to pass over the top of the screen and to flow smoother around the rider’s helmet. The wider top portion of the screen results in less wind bashing your shoulders and upper arms.
Display
The Kawasaki GTR1400's multi-functional display unit now includes an outside air temperature monitor as well. Other new instrument functions include the K-ACT (Kawasaki Advanced Coactive-braking Technology) mode indicator, ERI (Economical Riding Indicator), and Fuel Economy Assistance Mode icon. The mode-Select button on the front of the left grip increases ease of use by allowing you to change LCD modes without having to take your hand off the handlebar.
Tetra-Lever Swingarm
To make sure that the GTR’s massive amount of torque is transmitted to the road as efficiently as possible, a highly rigid, dual-sided, 4-link swingarm is used. Called the Tetra-Lever, it has been designed to offset the lifting or squatting of shaft drives when the throttle is opened and closed.
Multifunction Mirrors
The mirrors are now 40 mm higher as well, offering increased rear visibility. The repositioning also offers you improved protection for your hands.
