ZX10R SE – Gets even closer…
Positioned between the base ZX-10R and the homologation RR version, The new ZX10R SE gets two key new electronics upgrades to help it take the fight to its well known competitors. The first is the addition of an all-new Showa developed electronic suspension system, the first to be seen on a Kawasaki. As with the ZX10R for 2019, the Kawasaki ZX10R SE also sees an increase in power. In addition to this, the ZX10R SE also benefits from the new “Self Healing” paint. (Dents excluded !!)
Developed with Showa, the new Kawasaki Electronic Control Suspension (KECS) adds semi-active electronic damping to the SE’s armoury. The system adapts to all riding conditions, providing the ideal amount of damping, which is adjusted electronically to suit vehicle speed and suspension stroke to suit either road of track riding.
The second is the arrival of a bi-directional quickshifter, allowing smooth seamless up and down shifts. It also benefits from new 7-spoke Marchesini forged wheels, which are so much lighter than the wheels in the standard bike, for improved agility, acceleration, and braking.
The Ninja ZX-10R SE is equipped with three rider-selectable modes: Road, Track and Manual. The first two modes offer softer or stiffer base settings, whereas the manual mode allows the rider to tweak the basic settings of compression damping and extension..

Settings
Riders can choose from three modes: Road, Track, and Manual. Road and Track modes provide softer or firmer base settings to suit streetriding or circuit riding, respectively. Manual mode allows riders to tailor the rebound and compression damping base settings to suit preference and/or riding style. The manual settings (15 levels each) are selected electronically via the instrument panel. In all three modes, KECS adjusts damping for vehicle speed, stroke speed and deceleration.
Marchesini Forged Wheels
7-spoke multi- directional forged aluminium wheels jointly developed with Marchesini contribute to lighter handling – especially when changing direction.
KQS
Kawasaki Quick Shifter, Dual-direction KQS system allows both clutchless upshifts and downshifts, facilitating circuit riding. (On the standard model, clutchless downshifts are only possible with the race kit ECU.)
Electronic Suspension
Jointly developed with Showa, KECS adds electronically controlled damping to the high-spec Balance Free Front Fork and BFRC lite (Balance Free Rear Cushion) rear shock equipped on the Ninja ZX-10R. The semiactive system adapts to road and riding conditions in real time, providing the ideal amount of damping called for. Combining advanced, race-developed mechanical components with the latest electronic control technology, KECS offers both the suppleness to handle a wide range of street riding situations, and the firm damping needed for circuit riding. The tyres feel planted, delivering confidence when cornering.
1 millisecond
Control is via a solenoid valve with direct (single-stage) actuation. This results in extremely quick reaction time: 1 millisecond – much quicker than systems that rely on step-motors, or those that use pilot valves (two-stage actuation), which slow the system’s responsiveness. The quick reaction time makes KECS ideal for supersport applications, where natural feeling is crucial to feeling at one with the bike.
KECS ECU
Built-in stroke sensors on both the fork and rear shock – a feature unique to the Ninja ZX-10R SE – provide real-time stroke speed and compression information. The sensor coils provide input to the KECS ECU every 1 ms. This is complemented by information provided by the IMU (acceleration/deceleration) every 10 ms, and the FI ECU (vehicle speed) every 10 ms. The KECS ECU then directs current to the solenoids to adjust damping as required by the situation.

Electronic throttle valves
Electronic throttle valves allow the ECU to deliver the ideal amount of fuel and air to the engine. The system also enables more precise control of S-KTRC, as well as implementation of systems like KLCM and Kawasaki Engine Brake Control.
Swingarm with optimised rigidity
Designed using Kawasaki’s advanced dynamic rigidity analysis and a from-the-outside-in approach, swingarm with optimised rigidity contributes to nimbler handling
Aluminium twin-spar frame
Revised geometry care of a steering head moved closer to the rider, and a longer swingarm put more weight on the front for increased corner entry stability and confidence on the circuit.
Bosch IMU (Inertia Measurement Unit)
Compact IMU operates in 6 DOF (degrees of freedom): 5 measured + 1 calculated. Combined with Kawasaki’s proprietary dynamic modelling program, input from the IMU enables even more precise chassis orientation awareness, the key to bringing Kawasaki’s electronics to the next level.
Titanium exhaust
Heat-resistant titanium header pipes and silencer contribute to performance, long-lasting durability, light weight and mass centralisation.
Track-focused 998 cm3 liquid-cooled, 4-stroke In-line Four
All-new in 2011, the Ninja ZX-10R’s engine balanced stunning power with manageability, and facilitated getting back on the gas by moving peak torque higher up in the rpm range. The new engine maintains this essential character, but offers a stronger low-mid range for increased acceleration coming out of corners.
Cassette transmission
Race-style cassette transmission facilitates gear ratio changes to suit track conditions. The “cassette” is located high enough that it can be accessed without having the engine oil drain out.
Aerodynamic bodywork
Larger upper cowl cuts through the air more efficiently, and offers the rider greater wind protection, making it easier to shift position for corner entry when riding on the track.
High-performance Brembo Brake System
Dual high-spec Brembo M50 monobloc calipers gripping larger ø330 mm discs, specially prepared radial-pump master cylinder and race-quality steel-braided lines deliver next-level braking performance.
Cornering management function
Feedback from the IMU enables the addition of a new function. The new cornering management function uses KIBS and S-KTRC to assist riders in tracing their intended line through the corner.
High-visibility instrumentation
The centrepiece of the Ninja ZX-10R’s instrument panel is the highly visibly LED-backlit bar-graph tachometer.
