The formidable Ducati 1098R Corse

***

LESS WEIGHT - MORE POWER - MORE CONTROL ....

The new Ducati 1198R has been the focus of further engineering innovation. The engine is not only larger in capacity but has had extensive time spent on weight reduction of all of its components. Sand cast crank and engine cases have been replaced with new vacuum cast equivalents. This process has allowed the engineers to reduce wall thickness of these items thanks to the fact that vacuum casting expels any air bubbles that can weaken these items. (A weight saving of some 3.5kg was made from the crank cases alone).

The Rocker arms of the Ducati 1198R are no longer chrome plated - instead they are chemically hardened - again for weight saving and durability.

Further weight reduction was made available with the use of carbon fibre for all of the fairings and single seat cowl. Additionally the aluminium single seat rear subframe of the Ducati 1198R is a much lighter component.

A standard 1198 weighs in at 173kg........... The Ducati 1198R weighs in at only 165kg.

The new 1198cc engine of the 1198R contains a cartridge gearbox that will allow fast alteration to gear ratios. A slipper clutch is fitted as standard. New electronics that not only look after the secondary injectors that this thoroughbred has been given but also offer an all new eight stage adjustable traction control system that can be used with the original road legal exhausts. This system adjusts levels of fuel in order to operate. The adjustment has been made available in order to allow differing levels of slide whilst cornering - this will vary from rider to rider and upon rider experience.

Suspension is of the very highest performance standard. The fully adjustable 43mm Öhlins forks, which sport low friction Titanium Nitride fork sliders, respond effortlessly to every imperfection in the tarmac. Beyond their advanced engineering solutions, one of the most important characteristics of Öhlins forks is their ability to communicate the condition and quality of the tyre-to-road contact patch, a feature that puts every rider in superior control. The suspension system is completed and perfectly balanced by using a fully adjustable Öhlins TTXR rear shock with a ride enhancing top-out spring, controlling the single-sided swingarm for outstanding drive, traction and steering precision. The Öhlins package is completed with a control-enhancing adjustable steering damper.

The Ducati 1198R also has the benefit of super light Marchesini wheels that offer a 1.9kg weight saving over those fitted to the standard bike ensuring that the unsprung weight of this race machine is kept to an absolute minimum.

The 1198R is also supplied with the Ducati Data Analysis system as standard equipment. The DDA package supplied with the ‘R’ version enables the retrieval of data and analysis of data collected from your previous track session or road trip. The DDA package includes software for your personal computer on CD, a data retrieval USB key and instructions.

The road legal Ducati 1198R uses the SAME components as the bikes that will compete at World and British Superbike levels. Designed for the track.....Not for the feint hearted.

Available in the very striking "Corse" colour scheme.

Each bike will be supplied with a race exhaust system, a paddock stand and a Ducati bike cover.
